The 2014 Honda Accord Wins This Years Canadian Green Car Award

“One important way we can build an environmentally sustainable society is by making transportation choices that have a lower impact on the planet, and that includes greener cars.”  This powerful statement was made by David Miller, President and CEO of WWF-Canada, who presented the second annual 2014 Canadian Green Car Award to Honda Canada in the Hybrid Category this year!

Green Car Award 2014

The Canadian Green Car Award acknowledges vehicles that are commonly available in Canada that possess strong environmental qualities, combined with style and appeal.  This, along with objective criteria such as fuel economy, emissions and price, has an impact on who is the winner.  The award is voted on by a panel of 19 reputable automotive journalists from around the country who participate in extensive testing and assessments. This award was one of 5 other category winners and was presented during the three-day Green Living Show.

Save The Drive-In Movie…

If you have never experienced a drive-in movie, then some may say you haven’t truly captured the movie experience.  I remember the first time I attended the Starlite drive-in here in Hamilton.  I must have been about 5 or 6 when my father took my brother and me.  I can still remember the excitement and the mystery of it all.  We packed our cooler, brought some blankets in case it got cool and got ready for the show to begin.  Not only was I being allowed to stay up late because we had to wait until it got dark, I got to see two movies instead of one. At least, I tried to see two movies, but my young eyes wouldn’t stay open for the second film.  The part that I love most about the drive-in and still love today is that I feel as if I am experiencing a little piece of history.  They still play the old preview commercials and the concession building looks to be straight out of the 1950’s.  It is one of the few instances where your parents can say to you, “This is what I did as a kid”, and you know that you are experiencing the exact same thing, exactly how it was back then.

That is why Honda Motor Co. began a campaign called “Project Drive-In” to raise money for Drive-in theatres around the United States.  Most drive-in theatres across the U.S. and in Canada will be forced to close down due to the end of 35mm film distribution.  The end of 35mm film as we know it is forcing drive-in theatres to make the switch to digital, which will cost roughly $75,000 U.S. per screen.

“It’s not often that a company gets the opportunity to help preserve an American pastime.  It has been an honor and a privilege to bring national and local attention to the fate of drive-ins and to meet the passionate owners of these small businesses, said Alicia Jones, manager of Honda & Acura social marketing at American Honda Motor Co., Inc.  “We hope that the #SaveTheDriveIn movement continues in the effort to help keep more drive-ins open for the next generation.”

There will be a total of 9 winning theatres across the U.S. who will receive a new projector.  People were encouraged to visit www.projectdrivein.com to vote for their local drive-in.  Click here to watch Honda’s video on the movement.

We want to know what you think – let us know what your local drive-in means to you by visiting our AutoHwy Facebook page.

The 2013 Honda Civic – First small car to achieve IIHS Top Safety Pick rating

The all-new 2013 Honda Civic Sedan and Civic Coupe have become the first small cars to achieve Top Safety Pick+ ratings in the U.S IIHS (Institute for Highway Safety) safety testing. This makes the Civic Sedan and Coupe the first and only IIHS Top Safety Picks in the small car segment.  In addition, for the 2013 model year, all Honda models tested by the IIHS have received a top safety pick+ or top safety pick rating.

“If you are looking for a compact car with a TOP SAFETY PICK+ rating, the 2013 Honda Civic is the

only choice,” said Dave Jamieson, assistant vice president of sales and marketing at Honda Canada Inc. “We believe this is a distinct competitive advantage, especially as more and more consumers place a premium on crash rating performance.”

The 2013 Civic sedan comes equipped with the Honda Advanced Compatibility body structure (ACE II). It is not only the first small car to earn top safety pick+ in the industry, but the first and only to earn the highest possible rating of GOOD on the IIHS small overlap frontal crash test. The test is designed to simulate what happens when the front corner of a vehicle collides with another vehicle or an object at high speed. 2013 Honda Civic

Honda is now the leader in the industry with four Top Safety Pick rated vehicles – the Civic sedan and coupe and the Accord sedan and coupe.

The 2013 Honda Accord named Canadian Car of the Year

Earlier this morning at the opening of the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto, the winner of the Canadian Car of the Year was awarded by the Automobile Journalists Association of Canada (AJAC). The top honour went to none other than the 2013 Honda Accord sedan, and deservedly so. The Honda Accord beat out the 2013 Hyundai Elantra GT and the 2013 Porsche Boxster.7964949

AJAC’s annual test in October had about 80 leading auto journalists from across Canada gathered to test drive and evaluate over one hundred 2013 vehicles.

“We are extremely proud to see the Accord recognized by so many of Canada’s top journalists as Canadian Car of the Year and we thank AJAC for this great honour,” said Takashi Sekiguchi, President and CEO, Honda Canada who was there to accept the award. “The Accord is one of our most important vehicles, so we’re thrilled to receive the great feedback that we’re continuing to raise the bar in the family car category.”image

Congratulations to Honda Canada and Honda worldwide for this great achievement. For anyone who hasn’t had a chance to take a 2013 Honda Accord out on the road, it is definitely one to put on your list.

2013 Honda Accord – Powertrains

There is so much to welcome with the all-new 2013 Honda Accord, it can be overwhelming.  Over the course of the next week or so, we at Image Honda are going to break it down to provide a better understanding for you.

For many, what still remains the most important aspect of a new vehicle is how it performs.  Bearing this in mind, the new Accord offers you your choice of two all-new powertrains. The first is the more powerful, with a 3.5-litre, 24 valve, SOHC i-VTEC V6 engine with 278 hp.  The other is a 2.4-litre, 16 valve, direct injection DOHC i-VTEC 4-Cylnder engine with an available 189hp.

What really makes these powertrains outstanding is that both feature the first North American application of the “Earth Dreams Technology” making the Accord the most fuel efficient Accord yet!    The available transmissions allow for enhanced acceleration, contributing to its high performance and making it fun to drive.

Make sure you visit us at Image Honda and take a test drive in the all-new Honda Accord or visit us at www.imagehonda.com
