All-New 2016 Chevrolet Cruze a Great Value

Expected to arrive in Queenston’s showroom in March, the redesigned 2016 Chevrolet Cruze is roomier, better connected and offers improved value.

Chevrolet recently announced pricing for the all-new 2016 Cruze will start at $15,995, plus a $1,600 destination freight charge when it goes on sale next spring in Canada.

The 2016 Cruze’s base price is $180 less than the outgoing Cruze Limited model. With improved value across all trim levels, the Cruze offers more features like the standard Chevrolet MyLink radio with a 7-inch-diagonal touch screen, as well as Android Auto and Apple CarPlay compatibility. Also standard is the connectivity and convenience of OnStar 4G LTE with a Wi-Fi hotspot, and 10 standard airbags for advanced safety for you and your family.

Larger, lighter and more spacious than the previous model, the 2016 Cruze will be offered in L, LS, LT and Premier models. An all-new, direct-injected 1.4L turbo engine generates an estimated 153 horsepower and 177 lb-ft. of torque, providing a smooth, swift driving experience. A six-speed manual transmission is standard, while a 6-speed automatic transmission with fuel-saving auto start-stop technology is also available.

The Cruze LT automatic model, starting at $21,295 is an outstanding value, with a price reduction of $520 and the addition of new 16” aluminum wheels, and heated premium cloth seats and exterior mirrors (a must in Canadian winters!).

Varying by model, a range of active safety features are available, including Side Blind Zone Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Keep Assist, Forward Collision Alert and IntellibeamTM Automatic High-Beam Headlamps.

2016 Chevrolet Cruze

The sporty and fun Cruze has been Chevrolet’s best-selling global car, and it’s getting a complete makeover for the 2016 model year.  The new Cruze will be larger and lighter, more sophisticated and even more efficient than before.

Packed with new technologies such as available Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and new active safety features, as well as a more spacious interior and an athletic, aerodynamically optimized design, the 2016 Cruze elevates the compact car segment.

2016 cruze front

Due in North America in early 2016, where a new, standard 1.4L turbocharged engine with direct injection and an SAE-certified 153 horsepower (113 kW) will contribute to a General Motors-estimated 5.9 L/100km highway fuel efficiency with the available six-speed automatic transmission. Stop/start technology contributes to the Cruze’s efficiency in stop-and-go driving.  The new turbo engine and a leaner architecture that contributes up to a 113 kilogram (250-lbs.) overall weight reduction also contribute to the new Cruze offering stronger performance, with expected 0-97 km/h (0-60 mph) acceleration of eight seconds.

“The 2016 Cruze builds on a very successful program that introduced Chevrolet to new customers the world over,” said Alan Batey, president, General Motors North America. “We retained all the attributes that made the original Cruze a hit around the globe and built on them to make this car more sophisticated, more fun and more Chevrolet.”

Some highlights of the all-new Cruze include:

  • Next-generation Chevrolet MyLink with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay capability, including a standard 7-inch-diagonal screen and available 8-inch-diagonal screen (at launch, 8-inch screen only with Apple CarPlay)
  • Projector headlamps with light-emitting diode (LED) signature lighting – and LED daytime running lamps on uplevel models
  • More standard features than most competitors such as 10 air bags, four-wheel disc brakes, rearview camera and available OnStar 4G LTE with Wi-Fi hotspot
  • New available features including wireless phone charging, heated rear leather seats and heated, leather-wrapped steering wheel
  • Available advanced safety features include Side Blind Zone Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Keep Assist and Forward Collision Alert

The Cruze will also boast a new model range for North America including L, LS, LT and Premier – and a more expressive RS package.

Esthetically, the Cruze’s sleek profile is complemented by detailed, layered line work in the hood and body-side panels, contributing to an overall impression of muscularity – with an athletic stance enhanced by a longer wheelbase. The headlamps sweep back into the front fenders and an expressive, stacked dual-port grille design offers upscale attention to detail. LT and Premier models feature premium forward lighting systems, including projector-beam headlamps and LED signature daytime running lamps.

As always, safety is the Cruze’s top priority.  It features a new, stronger body structure that incorporates high-strength steel in key areas, a segment-leading 10 standard air bags, and available safety features including an expanded range of adaptive crash-avoidance technologies.  These include Side Blind Zone Alert, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Lane Keep Assist and Forward Collision Alert.
