A familiar EV for Canadian Consumers

Ontario, British Columbia, and Quebec are welcoming the Chevrolet Spark Electric Vehicle in 2016. The Spark EV was previously only available to Canadian fleet buyers and some U.S. states, but will now become an exciting option for consumers who can take advantage of their province’s incentive programs.

In Ontario, the incentive could range from $5,000 – $8,500 towards the purchase or lease of an eligible, new plug-in hybrid electric or battery electric vehicles. The rebate is determined by the vehicle’s battery capacity. Homeowners can also apply for rebates up to $1000 towards the installation of 240 V Level 2 home chargers for their garage or driveway.

sparkevWith an EPA-rated 132 km range, the Chevy Spark’s exciting 327 lb-ft of torque makes a standstill to 60 mph in just 7.2 seconds.  The Spark’s DC quick-charge can replenish the batteries up to 80 percent in roughly 20 minutes.

With the Spark’s primary audience being young drivers, this electric vehicle may get attention it deserves from green-minded Canadians. Look for the rollout of this smart Chevy at Queenston by the end of this year!

Just when you thought you couldn’t fall in love with the Corvette anymore, GM announces the Corvette Valet Mode. This new system takes security features for your car one step further. No longer having to worry about handing over the keys to your car, this industry-exclusive system allows you to lock interior storage, disable your infotainment system, and record video, audio and vehicle information when you set your new Corvette into “Valet Mode”.

The introduction of the Performance Data Recorder will provide owners with added peace of mind when handing over their keys. Initially designed to allow race drivers to record their laps and improve driving skills, all Corvette owners can now activate this feature through their settings menu using a unique four digit code. Data including: speed, engine RPM, gear position and g-force can be viewed instantly on the Corvette’s eight-inch touchscreen when the vehicle is in park.

Queenston ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

Presumably most of you have heard about the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, but a lot of you probably don’t know how or why it was started.  Pete Frates, a former baseball captain for Boston College was diagnosed with ALS at the age of 27.  Since his diagnosis in 2011, Pete has made it his goal to focus more attention on the disease, to make a difference and have his fight matter.  This unprecedented and viral fundraising effort all started when a group of Pete Frates friends invited him to take on the now infamous “Ice Bucket Challenge”.  When Pete posted his own video challenging others he knew to participate, it went viral.  Since then, everyone from leaders of state, celebrities, athletes, colleagues, neighbours and friends have taken this challenge to help raise money for a horrific and debilitating disease called Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), commonly referred to as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.  Please see Pete’s Challenge below:

Through the use of social media networks, the Ice Bucket Challenge encourages friends to challenge each other to either brave a bucket of ice-filled water, and donate $10 to ALS research, or donate $100 to ALS research if they choose to forgo the icy water.
